From 1 July 2010, household refrigerators must have an energy efficiency index (EEI) lower than 55. This would remove current energy label classes B,C and below. From 1 July 2012, the requirement is an EEI lower than 44, thus removing class A. From 1 July 2014, the EEI must be below 42, with only current classes A+ and above remaining. For household washing machines, from 1 July 2010, the EEI must be below 68, removing current classes B,C and below. From 1 July 2013, only current classes A+ and above will remain. Ecodesign requirements for TVs, from July 2010, will only allow TVs with energy efficiency better than the current average to be sold. From 1 April 2012, only TVs with an energy efficiency at least 20% better than the current average can be sold. This corresponds to the energy efficiency class C or better in the new labelling system for TVs.
