Europeans Support Coordinated Policy

In spite of some reservations, Europeans have a positive view on the whole of science, which continues to be linked to the idea of progress. According to a study published by the European Commission on 8 January, based on a survey carried out in the 27 member states during summer 2008, Europeans widely support a more coordinated research policy and the pooling of human and financial resources for research on issues of common interest, such as health, the environment or energy~1.rnThe study shows that the main hopes and fears of European citizens are focused on subjects that are perceived as concretely affecting peoples' daily lives and the more controversial issues, such as experiments on animals, work with stem cells and biofuels.
