摘要

In its 19 October communication, the European Commission announced its intention to temporarily suspend animal cloning intended for food production in the Union.rnThis declaration, which will be followed by a new regulation in 2011, nevertheless also takes into account that the descendants of cloned animals, such as embryos and eggs, could be imported into Europe under a traceability system.rnThe moratorium, which will be re-examined after five years, applies to cloning techniques used inside Europe, which means that no animal could be cloned for food production, breeding or marketing, but could be cloned for research purposes, to protect an endangered species or for pharmaceuticals production.
