IMCO wants e-commerce to flourish

Members of the European Parliament's Committee on Internal Market and Consumers (IMCO) approved unanimously, on 24 June, a report by Pablo Arias Echeverria (EPP, Spain) on further developing e-commerce. This activity has shown the sharpest growth in the retail sector but is still the least developed segment of the internal market, mainly because of cross-border obstacles and European consumers' lack of confidence. The removal of such obstacles is part of the objective ofrncompleting the internal market in this sector and the report offers a response to the European Commission's working paper of last March that describes such obstacles. It presents ways to develop the sector's considerable potential and to guide the Commission in revising the legal framework.
