MEPs are seeking a compromise on the authorisation of cross-border circulation of gigaliners on the eve of the vote, on 11 February, in the European Parliament's Committee on Transport (TRAN). The European Commission wants to allow the circulation of gigaliners - giant lorries of up to 60 tonnes and 2 5 metres long - between the member states that authorise them on their own territory. However, Parliament's rapporteur, Joerg Leichfried (S&D, Austria) has proposed banning them from crossing national borders.
