Intellectual Property Rights and the Financing of Technological Innovation

The commercial success of any firm is linked to the ability to navigate technological innovation trends and reinvent business models. This is well known, and the link between a firm's value and its assets is well established. However, while it is relatively easy and intuitive to assess the value of tangible assets, when it comes to intangible assets, such as technological knowledge, brands, etc., managers and investors often lack the necessary instruments to measure and evaluate them in order to engage with the markets more effectively. Thus there is a need for new measurement systems to predict the financial performance of technology driven firms and reduce uncertainties and risks, in order to increase market efficiency and allocate productively financial capitals.
