Why Europe Needs to Consider District Cooling

District cooling (DC) has a huge unexplored potential for meeting Europe's environmental targets. The future cooling market in the 27 member states of the European Union is estimated at 1,220 TWh and the saturation at 300 TWh. Today's DC capacity comes to only 3 TWh. DC uses less primary energy than building specific cooling solutions. The Rescue project - funded by Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) - supports cities in the EU to start exploring their DC potential and by doing so contributes to meet the EU's climate targets.
