摘要

Much of the existing discourse and research on climate change focus on understanding the multifarious processes of environmental change taking place, the consequences of such changes for human societies and infrastructure, and the possible technocratic and economic solutions. The premise of this book is that although such understandings of climate change are important, they provide little information about how individuals and communities can respond to the threats climate change poses to their social, environmental and human rights. The authors of this book call for a 'new science' of climate change that is more holistic in its approach to the problem (p. 19). The 'new science' needs to recognize that climate change is as much an ethical as a scientific issue, and as such requires greater consideration of the normative dimensions of climate change and greater integration of the natural and social sciences.
