Mountain, Lake and Forest

'The site is the horizon', states Paolo Buergi, the Swiss landscape architect whose projects go beyond physical boundaries. This is what the subtitle of Paolo Burgi Landscape Architect - Discovering the (Swiss) horizon: Mountain, Lake and Forest is referring to. The book examines three of Buergi's projects - a series of interventions on Cardada Mountain, the redevelopment of the Hafenplatz at Kreuzlingen on Lake Constance and the design of a private garden in a forest of Sementino in Ticino - to illustrate his search for the essence of a place. By rendering topographical, geological and cultural meaning visible and tangible, he hopes to increase people's awareness and thereby also their appreciation of their surroundings.
