By means of model calculations the significance of selective mineral exploitation for the economical and environmentally beneficial situation of underground metal mining was pointed out. Losses and dilution, which can be connected by selectivity, in mineral exploitation are changing in the same direction when there are changes in mining technology or in mine layout. Losses and dilution can be changed in different directions within the scope of controlling the operating cycle. An analysis of the economic impact came to the result that to obtain the maximum net present value one optimum combination of mining losses and dilution is required. - In metal mining operations optimum rates of dilution are low. This emphasizes the increasing significance of mining with backfill. Backfilling leads to low dilution. In order to reduce the environmental impact of mining operations the significance of backfilling increases. Backfilling contributes to the disposal of mine wastes and other industrial residues. Result of backfilling is a diminution of dumps and tailing ponds on the surface and a reduction of subsidence damages. Effects of backfilling are the reduction of dilution and the diminution of mine waste disposal on the surface.%Modellbetrachtungen haben die Bedeutung der selektiven Mineralgewinnung für einen wirtschaftlichen und umweltverträglichen Erztiefbau aufgezeigt. Abbau- und Gewinnungsverluste sowie Verdünnungen des Rohgutes, die durch die Selektivität verknüpft sind, verändern sich bei der Mineralgewinnung mit unterschiedlichen Abbauverfahren gleichläufig bei Verfahrens- und Zuschnittsänderungen und gegenläufig bei Variationen der Steuermechanismen des Betriebsablaufs. Eine Wirtschaftlichkeitsuntersuchung ergab, daß bei optimalen Verlusten und Verdünnungen die höchsten Kapitalwerte zu erzielen sind, wobei Versatz eine bedeutende Rolle spielt.
