Promoting Greener Transportation Systemsfor Employees in Industrial Areas: Service Design and Communication Strategies

This article suggests a model for designing and promoting more sustainable employee transportation services. The study discussed here seeks to provide an answer to a research question that has not been fully addressed in other studies (Steg, Vlek, & Slotegraaf, 2001): Which elements of a mobility system's design are particularly significant for promoting shifts in attitudes and behaviors? The discussion includes a case study on designing and implementing an alternative transport system for employees who commute into a commercial/industrial area. The goal is to convince employees to switch from commuting by private cars to using public or shared forms of transport.
