摘要

Three companies that own six chemical production plants in Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming agreed to pay a combined civil penalty of $700,000 for alleged violations of the CAA's NSR permitting requirements. The charges involved sulfuric acid manufacturing operations. According to EPA, which was joined in the case by the states and the Northern Arapaho Tribe, the companies modified their plants in ways that increased emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO_2) without first obtaining NSR preconstruction permits and installing required pollution control equipment. The CAA requires major sources of air pollution to obtain such permits before making changes that would result in significant increases in emissions of any pollutant.
