A proposal from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) to require more stringent reductions of hexavalent chromium emissions is directed at the two cement manufacturing facilities in SCAQMD's jurisdiction. The proposal would amend existing SCAQMD Rule 1156, which was adopted in November 2005, and requires that affected cement plant operators enclose clinker storage areas that exceed 4 acres or 80,000 tons/month throughput. At a minimum, facilities are required to use chemical dust suppression, tarps, or barrier/wind fences.
