Enforcement of MARPOL Annex VI

In light of a new enforcement memorandum of understanding (MOU) between EPA and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), owners and operators of U.S. flagged and non-U.S. flagged ocean-going vessels operating in U.S. waters should review their compliance status under international air pollution requirements in which the U.S. is a party. The MOU outlines a cooperative approach to ensure that each agency operates according to a single set of protocols in areas such as inspections and sharing of information regarding enforcement of Annex VI air pollution regulations issued by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
