Federal Plan Proposed for Hospital Incinerators

States without EPA-approved plans to implement emissions guidelines (EG) for existing hospital/medical/infectious waste incinerators (HMIWI) may become subject to a revised federal implementation plan (FIP) recently proposed by the Agency. Currently, 24 states have not provided EPA with final plans, draft plans, or negative declarations that certify there are no HMIWIs in their states. EPA has determined that 54 HMIWIs are currently operating nationwide.
