Federal Plan Proposed to Implement Emission Guidelines for Medical Waste Incinerators

On October 6, 2009 (74 FR 51368), EPA issued revised new source performance standards (NSPS) and emission guidelines for hospital, medical, and infectious waste incinerators (HMIWI). The revisions to the NSPS and emission guidelines were made in response to a remand of the HMIWI standards by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (DC Circuit Court). In addition, the revisions satisfied the CAA Section 129(a)(5) requirement to conduct a review of the standards every five years.
