Florida-Georgia water dispute to Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments in a dispute over rights to water in two Georgia rivers that flow into a Florida river and is impounded along the way by several dams and reservoirs operated in Georgia by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). Florida, the plaintiff in the case, has taken the position that Georgia's removal of water from the Chatta-hoochee River and Flint River in Georgia is illegally depriving Florida's Apalachicola River and region of the amount of water necessary to sustain "a unique and vibrant cultural, social and economic community, dependent primarily on the environmental health of the River and [Apalachicola] Bay."
