As readers will know, the UK Climate Change Bill sets a target of reducing emissions by 60 per cent by 2050; the Scottish Government seeks to go beyond that with a target of 80 per cent. The principal consultation document sets out the background, including our capacity for forest cover and the 60GW of renewables generating capacity that exists in Scotland, which in turn is 75 per cent of the UK total. On the downside is our carbon-rich soil, which makes it more difficult to reduce emissions from land-based activities.
