The Human Footprint: A Global Environmental History

摘要

One indication that environmental history as a field is ripening is the recent publication of several one-volume global environmental history surveys. Each is the fruit of what is coming to be called "philosopause," the mature statement of the author's view of world history and its environmental significance for our time. Each is welcome, for an increasing number of scholar-teachers are now able to teach global survey courses, giving students an improved context for heading into a future of daunting climate change.
