Czech battle over emission limits in full fire

Although the Czech National Allocation Plan for emission deployment and trading under the EU emissions trading system was expected to be completed over the summer, the battle is still going on. The environment ministry which draft the proposed allocation plan, is facing strong criticism from companies, backed by the ministry of trade and industry. In June, the environment ministry selected 430 large installations, belonging to 350 companies, to be part of the emission scheme, among them power plants, metal works and steel mills, paper mills, cement makers, oil refineries, coke plants and machine factories. These facilities together currently produce 89 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO_2) per year.
