Commission to aid small firms comply with EU environmental law

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are to get a helping hand both to improve their environmental performance and to comply with EU environment laws through a programme the European Commission is to propose this autumn. The Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) will focus on best practice in the member states and aims to help through national and regional bodies rather than laying down a one-size-fits-all approach for the EU as a whole, a Commission official involved in drafting the programme told EE & PL. "It's not from Brussels that we can reach 23 million SMEs in Europe."
