Green lobby groups and biotech industries simultaneously lobbied the European Commission to listen to their opposing messages on the use of genetically-modified (GM) crops on Wednesday. Gathering in front of the European Commission in Brussels, Greenpeace called on the Commission to stop its authorisation of GM crops in the face of new scientific evidence. The group backed a call by European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas, who is currently circulating draft proposals within the Commission calling for a veto on two GM maize types, known as Bt, for cultivation.
