GHS legislation to be adopted without delay, says Commission

The Commission proposal on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures is similar to the system currently used in the EU and should be adopted as soon as possible to avoid double work and cost to industry. This was the message of the Commission, during a first exchange of views on the issue with the environment committee of the European Parliament.rnSpeaking on 27 November, the Commission representative explained that the scope of the proposal had been kept similar to the current system to ensure consistency with the EU's REACH legislation on chemicals and the UN's GHS (global harmonised system) on classification of chemicals.
