Sweden has developed strong sustainability criteria for biofuel imports, according to Patrick Olsen, a spokesman for Sekab, which is a major biofuel and chemical supplier in the Scandinavian country.rnSpeaking at the Agra Informa World Ethanol conference in Paris, he said that Swedish consumers had been affected by negative press reports about biofuels, and therefore his company introduced the highest environmental and social standards to reassure drivers through its Verified Sustainable Ethanol Initiative, signed recently with suppliers in Brazil.rnThese include demonstrable greenhouse gas reductions from feedstocks of at least 85 per cent; schemes to increase mechanical harvesting of cane; zero tolerance for child labour, as well as excellent working conditions and labour rights; and zero tolerance of deforestation.
