EP pesticide amendments 'must stand' says MEP

MEPs have defended the stringent conditions they plan to write into new pesticides regulations, despite claims by the agriculture industry that the new measures will restrict crop yields. Speaking at a conference in Brussels last week, German Green MEP Hiltrud Breyer, who is the rapporteur on the EU pesticides directive in the Parliament's Environment Committee, slammed what she called 'scare-mongering' impact assessments which had offered 'misleading' figures about the amount of products which will be affected.
