Council to consider tightening up environmental checks on GMOs

The 20 October Environment Council is to consider whether the EU needs to tighten up environmental assessments of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), picking up from discussions among member state experts in a French presidency working group. Monday's discussions will be based on a paper that the French presidency first put to member states at the beginning of September, notably asking whether governments are in favour of stepping up the environmental assessment.
