US bioethanol group hits back at EU complaints

The US-based Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) has rejected claims made by European bioethanol producers that imports from the US benefit from tax break subsidies and that countervailing duties must be imposed to reverse the damage inflicted on EU domestic producers. "Massive and sudden imports of US ethanol, combined with unfairly low prices over the last few years, have seriously damaged the economic situation of European producers," Rob Vierhout, secretary general of ePure, the organisation that represents the largest bioethanol producers in the EU27, said last week.
