The European Commission late last week announced it would impose a country-wide antidumping (AD) duty of 62.3 euros per ton on bioethanol imports from the United States, after finding that U.S. exporters sold their product in the EU at a lower price than the fuel would have fetched domestically, to the detriment of EU ethanol producers. In a decision published in the EU's Official Journal on Feb. 22, the commission said that imports of bioethanol - made primarily from corn - had "significantly increased" in terms of volume during the period of its investigation, which stretched from Oct 1, 2010, to Sept. 30, 2011.
