Honey with GM pollen not a health risk - EFSA

Honey with traces of pollen from genetically modified (GM) maize is safe to eat, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has said, responding to an EU court ruling that honey containing GM must be authorised before going on sale (see also story below). Pollen derived from Monsanto's MON810 maize is "unlikely to raise specific concerns" as it has already been found to be as safe as non-GM maize, the EU's food safety watchdog told the European Commission last week.
