US: Lukewarm praise for FDA actions on BPA

Too little, too late - that basically sums up the views of US congressional Democrats and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) regarding the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s decision to no longer allow the use of bisphenol A (BPA)-containing polycarbonate (PC) resins in baby bottles and sippy cups. The decision, announced in the 17 July Federal Register, is in response to a petition filed last October by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to amend FDA's food additive regulations to prohibit the use of PC resins in baby bottles and sippy cups on the basis that such uses have been completely and permanently abandoned.
