Sweden to ban BPA in till receipts and tickets

Sweden is planning to ban bisphenol A (BPA) from thermal paper most commonly used in till receipts and tickets.The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Keml) said on 29 June that it had presented a proposal to the government for a national ban. The move follows a government demand last April that Keml investigate the risk from BPA in till receipts and a ban on the substance in packaging of baby and toddler food announced at the same time (see EE&PL, April 18, 2012, pl0-11). The EU has banned BPA in baby bottles since spring 2011.
