UK rapped over reduced VAT for energy-saving materials

The European Commission has given the United Kingdom two months to amend legislation which allows a reduced VAT (value added tax) rate for the supply and installation of "energy-saving materials" or face action in the EU Court of Justice.In a 21 June statement, the Commission said it was sending the UK a reasoned opinion over the reduced rate because the measure "goes beyond the scope allowed under the VAT directive."
