Commission takes action against Malta over packaging

The European Commission is taking action against Malta for not implementing the definition of packaging and packaging waste in its national law, giving it two months to come up to scratch or face a referral to the EU Court of Justice.The Commission said on 21 June that it had identified several shortcomings in Malta's transposition of the Directive, including a provision suggesting that the Maltese legislation only applies to products directly placed in Malta, thus excluding products initially marketed in other member states and then brought to Malta.
