The upcoming EU seventh Environmental Action Programme (EAP) must focus on reducing the EU ecological footprint by acting more efficiently on waste, natural resources and energy, said MEPs as they voted on non-binding recommendations on 29 February. The vote, by 50 votes in favour, 8 against, came in the European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety on German Socialist Jo Leinen's report, which also calls for environmentally harmful subsidies to be phased out by 2020.
