While the European Commission is looking into ways to make EU waste legislation "clearer, more effective and more easily enforceable," the waste hierarchy itself is considered appropriate and "will not be reviewed," its Environment Commissioner has said. Janez Potocnik, however, said that since the Commission was "evaluating possible gaps and legal inconsistencies," the process would no doubt strengthen the application of the hierarchy.
