US: BPA's shifting status under California's Proposition 65

With legislation introduced in both chambers of Congress this month to outlaw the use of bisphenol A (BPA), including one bill offered by Senator Dianne Feinstein (Democrat, California) (see story this issue), our sister publication Food Chemical News (FCN) invited a top food packaging regulatory expert to give his views on the issue. The California Environmental Protection Agency's (Cal/EPA) Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA or the Office) just does not want to give up on trying to include bisphenol A (BPA) on the state's Proposition 65 list of reproductive toxicants.
