Parliament and Council clinch deal on climate damaging F-gases

The European Parliament and member states have reached an agreement on ways to curb climate damaging F-gases (fluorinated greenhouse gases) to 21 per cent of present levels. The 16 December trialogue agreement on the review of the EU F-gas regulation will cap the amount of HFCs (hydrofluorinated carbons) which can be placed on the European market and will gradually reduce them over time. Parliament's rapporteur, the Belgian Green MEP Bas Eickhout, welcomed the outcome as did the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and London-based Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA).
