State Environmental Commission Adopts Temporary Greenhouse Gas Reporting Fees

The Oregon Environmental Quality Commission Dec. 11 adopted temporary greenhouse gas reporting fees for major air pollution sources.rnThe Department of Environmental Quality will use the fees to set up a greenhouse gas reporting system beginning in 2010. DEQ plans to work closely with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Climate Registry, and the Western Climate Initiative to harmonize DEQ's reporting system with the other reporting systems, according to the new agency's rules.rnSources subject to the reporting fees will include those that emit 2,500 metric tons or more of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons, and per-fluorocarbons. The temporary fees will range from $54 annually to a cap of $6,000 annually.
