Obama Administration, Utilities Team Up To Boost Sales of Plug-In Electric Vehicles

The White House announced commitments Nov. 18 made by more than 70 electric utilities to purchase plug-in electric vehicles. The utilities, all of them investor-owned, committed to devote at least 5 percent of their annual fleet acquisition budgets to the purchase of plug-in electric vehicles and technologies at an estimated cost of $50 million annually. The White House also said 61 new businesses, schools and nonprofit organizations committed to install workplace charging stations for their employees.
