Nuclear Power Facing Economic Challenges As Clean Power Plan Deadlines Loom

With the future of the nuclear industry remaining in flux as reactors start closing due to economic challenges, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Nuclear Energy Commission stressed the importance of nuclear power as a carbon-free, baseload energy source. The two agencies discussed impacts of nuclear plant closures on states working to meet Clean Power Plan emission targets at an Oct. 21 joint FERC and NRC public meeting at FERC's headquarters in Washington.
