State Issues Green Infrastructure Plan For Coastal Protection in New York City

A range of green infrastructure projects would harness natural systems to add resiliency to coastal areas of New York City affected by climate change, under a research plan issued March 9 by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The plan, which evaluated current research on six green infrastructure approaches and set a structure for continuing studies, is intended to guide implementation of $17 billion in federally funded resiliency projects along the city's coast and shoreline. The projects were announced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) in 2014 as a response to widespread damage from Hurricane Sandy the year before (45 ER 2139, 7/18/14).
