摘要

An $18 million plan to clean up PCB contamination at a former metal molding facility in Fairfield, N.J., has been finalized, federal officials said Sept. 21. The cleanup plan will address soil and building contamination at the Unimatic Manufacturing Corp. Super-fund site, which was contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) used in lubricating oils in machines, the Environmental Protection Agency said. PCBs were banned in 1979. Under the plan, crews will demolish a building on the site and remove about 26,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil. The EPA will address cleanup of the ground-water, also contaminated with PCBs, during the next stage of the cleanup, the agency said.
