Nations Urged to Address Oceans In Updating Paris Climate Pledges

The nearly 200 nations that pledged actions under the Paris climate deal should broaden them in the years ahead to target acidification and other ways climate change is impacting oceans, Morocco's environment minister told Bloomberg BNA Sept. 14. The minister, Hakima El Haite, also raised the prospect of the 2015 Paris pact entering into force during or just after her country hosts the next UN climate summit in Marrakesh Nov. 7-18. "That is optimistic-but not too, too optimistic," she said, noting there is still two months before the summit for a host of big emitters to sign on.
