Reflections on feminist economic geography: Talking to ourselves?

As I sit down to write a response to these interesting commentaries, I find myself both delighted and depressed. Elation is my first response - look at what we've achieved, what interesting work has been published in a field broadly defined as labour geography in the 25 years since I put pen to paper (finger to laptop) to suggest that women were not a precapitalist category. And what a wonderful compliment to have such a generous set of comments that attribute to me greater influence than I think is warranted. Scholarship is always a mutual and collegial exercise, and I want to acknowledge immediately how much I have learnt from the many inspirational people with whom I have worked. My absence from the conference was a source of regret but I was in Finland, also discussing labour market change, as an unfortunate clash of dates forced me to choose between two exciting conference programmes.
