摘要

EPA's proposed framework for assessing cancer risks from substances that are "mutagenic," or cause changes in human DNA,should be revised and resubmitted for peer review because the initial draft lacked sufficient clarity and coherence for a panel of expert reviewers to reach much consensus on the document, according to members of the review panel, who submitted written comments to the agency after their one-day meeting earlier this year. If EPA accepts the suggestion to significantly revise the framework and resubmit it for another formal peer review, that could thwart the agency's stated goal of trying to issue a final framework this year to guide risk assessors in how they should deal with chemicals that have a mutagenic mode of action (MOA).
