EPA is reviewing several of the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS), which set ambient limits for six criteria pollutants, in 2010. As part of the reviews, EPA will prepare several documents - including an integrated science assessment, a risk/exposure assessment and policy assessment - to inform the administrator's final decision on whether to revise the existing standards. EPA will provide opportunities for comment from the public and the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC). The air act requires EPA to review the standards for each criteria pollutant - both the primary, health-based standard and the secondary, welfare-based standard - every five years.
