Draft EPA Guide For Assessing Rules' Equity Impacts Draws Early Concerns

EPA's draft technical guidance for assessing the environmental justice impacts of its regulations is drawing early concerns from industry officials who warn it is too broad and does not adequately account for increased costs, and from state officials who are raising questions about how the guide will impact their duties. EPA released the technical guidance May 9 and held the first of two webinars to explain it May 29. The agency announced in a June 4 Federal Register notice that it has created a Science Advisory Board (SAB) panel to review the document during a June 19-20 meeting in Arlington, VA.
