EPA Outlines Plan To Address Causes Of Cyanotoxins In Drinking Water

EPA is pledging to "evaluate the links between changing temperatures" and the effect of nutrient reduction strategies on managing risks posed by cyanotoxins in drinking water, appearing to address in a new report a push from drinking water utilities and environmentalists to prevent, and not only mitigate, the contaminant's risks. The report, "Algal Toxin Risk Assessment and Management Strategic Plan for Drinking Water," responds to requirements in the Drinking Water Protection Act, signed by President Obama in August, that called on EPA to lay out a plan assessing and managing the risks associated with cyanotoxins in drinking water, as well as to submit a list of cyanotoxins that are harmful to human health when present in drinking water.
