Education for young engineers

Recently, I was invited to sit on the Queensland Education Linkages Sub-Committee as the young engineer's representative. The committee was established in conjunction with Queensland Division and the National Office of Engineers Australia to develop and implement strategies, policies and projects to link with educational providers and the community in Queensland. At the kick-off meeting, David Finch ran a workshop which presented thought provoking facts about (primary, secondary and tertiary) education in relation to our profession. It is clear that the profession has a significant role to play in not only participating in education programs focused on encouraging the youth of Australia into the profession; but also in shaping the programs that align with the skill requirements for current practice.
