No Trust In Survey

I refer to the article within the In Brief section of the May issue of Engineers Australia magazine entitled "People trust engineers".rnUnless things have changed recently, research has repeatedly shown that the strongest image the word "engineer" brings to the community's mind is that of a mechanic or welder/sheet metal worker.rnUnfortunately this is understandable as professional engineers and their achievements are rarely reported in the mainstream media. Also, the general public would not normally have any direct involvement with professional engineers or knowledge of their work, as they would with many other professions and occupations.rnAlthough the survey was called "Image of Professions", the community generally regards "profession" as interchangeable with "occupation". Even car salesmen and real estate agents were included in the survey, which proves my point.rnI have reviewed the survey question posed and feel the results that show society holds engineers in high regard is probably meaningless to professional engineers, as the survey respondents were more than likely thinking about other "engineers".
